TOLLAND — The Democratic Town Committee is searching for residents who are interested in serving on various boards and commissions.
A municipal elections nominating committee, composed of five DTC members, is meeting on a weekly basis Sundays or Mondays, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
“Our intent is to meet and consider the best candidates possible and promote a cohesive, progressive slate that seeks to improve the quality of life for their neighbors and the community as a whole,” said Steven Jones, the chairman of the DTC.
The nominating committee eventually will choose up to 17 residents who wish to campaign and serve on the Town Council, the Board of Education, the Planning and Zoning Commission, or the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The interview process is open to those who are registered as Democrats, Unaffiliated, and Independent.
The nominating committee interviews incumbents and prospective candidates for about 30 minutes about their interest in running for municipal office and the issues currently facing the town.
The committee will meet throughout the spring until its meeting in June.
The 17 candidates will be approved for caucus in July, at which point the nominating committee will be dissolved, Jones said.
Those who are interested in serving are asked to contact Jones at chair@tollanddemocrats.org.
